Court hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
Fine payments are taken daily 8:30am – 4:30pm. Payment options include cash, money orders, Visa/Mastercard. NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED.
Town Justices Mark S. Nemeth and Mark J. Frentzel share the bench on Wednesday evenings. Justice Nemeth sits every first and third Wednesday of the month. Justice Frentzel sits every second and fourth Wednesday of the month.
Grand Island court has jurisdiction over anyone 16 years and older. The court hears misdemeanor, violations and traffic matters only. We have no jurisdiction over felony charges, but can arraign a case with felony charges and hold felony hearing.
Assistant District Attorneys are assigned to our court, appearing every Wednesday evening, representing the people of the State of New York.
SMALL CLAIMS applications can be filed Monday through Friday from 9:00am – 4:00pm. A mandatory filing fee must be paid at the time of filing. The maximum claim allowed in a town court is $3,000. The fee for a claim of $1,000 or less is $10.00 and for a claim of $1,001 - $3,000 is $15.00. A Corporation cannot file a Small Claim matter in Town Court; they must go to the nearest City Court. A Small Claim Booklet and application are available free of charge at the court.
EVICTIONS filings can be made Monday through Friday from 9:00am – 4:00pm. The filing fee is $20.00. The defendant must be served no less than 10 days, but no more than 17 days prior to the court date. At the time of filing all original documents must be filed, including an Affidavit of Service. Paperwork must be filed the Friday prior to the Wednesday court date. YOU MUST CONTACT THE COURT TO CONFIRM A COURT DATE.
